(for Independence, Continental, and Sentry flag poles)(Estate & Fiberglass Flagpoles Use a Mounting Tube)
The embedded, or groundset, mount is the method of choice for mounting aluminum flagpoles at grade. Flagpole shafts so mounted have a higher wind speed rating than the same shafts base plate mounted.
Foundation tube is fabricated from 16 ga. galvanized steel, with a steel base plate whose square dimension is at least the i.d. of the sleeve plus 4". A setting plate 6" square shall be securely welded to the ground spike at least 6" below the base plate. The ground spike shall be 3/4" diameter, not less than 18" long.

Shoebase Mount Installation
Recommended for downlighter flagpole installationsShoebase Install Information (Adobe PDF)
Shoebase mount flagpoles are used primarily where embedded type mounts cannot be used, as over an underground garage; or where electrical wiring for illumination or hazard lights is to be introduced into the shaft.
Electrical conduit must be run up through the concrete base, up to the flagpole shaft.
Anchor base is cast from A356 alloy aluminum, the shoebase shall be heat-treated to a T-6 condition. The shaft shall be inserted into the shoebase casting, and casting and shaft shall be joined by a continuous circumferential weld at the outside top and inside bottom of the shoebase. Shoebase mounting is available on most shafts with a base diameter of 4" to 10".

Shoe base mounting is not recommended except for roof tops and parking garages.
